To make the team, the girls came a long way, competing in the Ukrainian Olympiad in Programming, the Ukrainian Girls' Olympiad in Informatics, and the selection and training camp, on the strength of which the team was chosen.

Winners of previous international and Ukrainian olympiads spent a week preparing the contestants, giving lectures and setting problems to solve.

Between rounds the girls had a chance to rest, taking a boat trip on the Dnipro and visiting a water park.
