Ukrainian Olympiad in Informatics

The Ukrainian Olympiad in Informatics is an annual informatics competition run by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. It began in 1988 as the Republican Olympiad of the Ukrainian SSR; the first was held in Chernivtsi, and in 1992 it took its present name.

The olympiad has three stages: district, regional and national. Registration for the first stage is online and is run independently by each region; the best contestants of each stage are invited to the next.

The final stage is not only about the awards — it is the way into the national teams. Its strongest contestants are invited to the selection camp for the International Olympiad in Informatics. Those who are not graduating go to the Balkan Olympiad camp, which runs at the same time. The six best travel to the Baltic Olympiad. For the Central European Olympiad the team depends on the calendar: if it falls before the International Olympiad, the IOI team goes; if after, the Balkan team does.
