New Regulations on the olympiads

On the 30th of December 2024 the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine approved new Regulations on school olympiads. These Regulations only come into force on the 1st of June 2025. That is, this season will still be run under the old Regulations. The new Regulations can be found at this link.

The main changes:

• The olympiads in the regions will now be organised by branches of the Junior Academy of Sciences rather than by the Institutes of Postgraduate Education.
• The school stage is abolished. The olympiads will now have only three stages — district (by community), regional (city level in Kyiv) and national.
• UPML will have teams of its own at the final stage only in mathematics, physics and astronomy.
• The regional stage is held simultaneously across Ukraine on a single problem set. The best participants of the regional stage in the overall ranking who did not make their region's team may be invited to the final stage under an additional quota.
• An additional "region" is provided for participants living abroad. They will compete as a separate "region" at the final stage.
• There will be no more internet olympiads. They will be replaced by STEM olympiads, which do not lead to the final stage of the main olympiads.
• The maximum number of participants at a selection and training camp has been raised from twice to three times the team size (for informatics, from 8 to 12).
• The final stage of the informatics olympiad will be held for grades 8–11. The earlier stages are for grades 6–11.
• Up to 10% of the participants at the final stages of the olympiads may be given special diplomas (honorable mentions).
• Participants must compete for one and the same grade throughout every stage of the olympiad.
